Health
The role of the Health Theme Group is to;
Support the delivery of a range of community engagement activity in line with the priorities set out in the Health Thematic Group Action Plan. This will include:
Undertaking Consultation through the CRGs, Voluntary Sector Forum, and with other relevant Community Organisations linked to the Planning and Review Programme for the Health Thematic Group Action Plan.
Prepare a communication plan and undertake a programme of Awareness Raising on the activity of the Health Thematic Group within the area.
Undertake a programme of community consultation on the proposed changes to health related services in the area.
Develop an integrated plan for community engagement linking CRGs/PPFs in the area – recruitment and support for members; training needs analysis and capacity building; etc
The priorities for the thematic group are
• Vulnerable children and families
• Alcohol
The above priorities are underpinned by a community led approach to health improvement
We promote health and social care services and engage with the people living in East Glasgow via a range of mechanisms. These include:
Local Media
The East Glasgow Community Health Care Partnership (CHCP) Community Newspaper is published quarterly as a supplement with the Glasgow East Outlook Community Newspaper. This provides information about services in a user friendly way to every household in East Glasgow.
Other local papers include the East Glasgow News, Re-Gen and Evening Times which also cover stories about CHCP activity. Examples include;
• Work of East Oral Health Action team
• The re-launch of Bridgeton Child Dental Health Service
• Positive Mental Attitudes
• Work of Silver Deal Active East
• Work of the Smoking Cessation team
• Keep Well Project and Heartstart
• MacMillan Cancer Project at the Bridge, Easterhouse
• Launch of a community cafe providing supported employment for people with learning disabilities
• East Glasgow CHCP Success at Flourish Awards and Care Accolades with Pathways to Progression Project
Public Events
We have hosted and contributed to a range of events, including official openings for services, MSP visits, public open days, seminars for the CHCP Committee, local people and other stakeholders.
Examples include:
• A recent event in November introduced CRG members to the work of the CHCP and gave them the opportunity to meet Heads of Service
• Support for East Community Addiction Forum AGM
• The Ripple Effect – Effect of Alcohol and Drugs Community Meeting to be held March 2010
• Open Evening at Riddrie Centre for local people to find our about local services and put views forward – March /April 2010.
Working with local voluntary groups
Our Community Development and Engagement Team supports many local voluntary groups including the East Community Addictions Forum and Mental Health Service Users Network. The CHCP consults regularly with local service users groups and voluntary groups with regard to proposed service changes.
Public Partnership Forum (PPF)
The CHCP’s Public Partnership meets monthly and takes part in a range of community engagement activities. The PPF are represented on the health thematic group
The PPF is made up of people who live or work in east Glasgow; Members of local voluntary groups are also part of the PPF.
There are a number of PPF members who are on the CRGs. This ensures linkage between the two.
Other
The Thematic Lead for health Anne Mitchell (Head of Planning and Health Improvement) attends and contributes to the CRG events run by GERA.
At each public event there has been an open invitation to members of the community to join the Health Thematic Group.
