Safety
The East Glasgow Safe Theme Group are responsible for the development and delivery of a community Safe Plan.
Over the next year or so we’d hope that Community Reference Groups and their members can help the development of this plan by becoming involved in the community engagement activities that underpin it.
This is likely to include:
• becoming involved in consultations to shape or review the priorities within the plan (LET US KNOW - are we trying to achieve the right things?);
becoming involved more locally in Consultation Programmes on the work of the partners (tell us – what more can be on offered locally?)
helping us raise awareness of the Safe partners activities available within your local area.
What has the Safe thematic group been working on over the past year?

Planning prevention
2 Prevention and Diversion Activities to reduce Alcohol and Violence and Disorder
• Prevention and Diversion Activities, led by EEHARF,
• Brings together a wide range of local partners to provide weekend activities and street based youth work across East Glasgow.
• An innovative aspect of this programme is its partners shared approach to data capture which allows the programme to provide local reporting to each of the area that it serves.
• The activities provided at 26 venues across the East has attracted 3,981 attendances
3 Violence Against women
To enhance the provision of services and support to women and children who are victims of violence and abuse in the East end of Glasgow by strengthening the services and resources available to women
5 key women’s organisations that provide services to women across Glasgow East came together: Wise Women, SAY Women, Rape Crisis, Glasgow East Women’s Aid, Women’s Support Project
This initiative delivers this process through 4 core elements:
• SUPPORT: Increasing degree of direct support to women increasing the overall venues and points of intervention for women through which they can access services.
• COMMUNITY / LEARNING: Raising awareness to wider community on the impact of sexual violence, gender based violence, child abuse, neglect, poor health, poverty, homelessness and addressing issues of self esteem and the impact of media especially on young women, through publicity material, support packs, interactive workshops etc.
• ENGAGEMENT: Supporting the increase in participation by women and children affected by violence and abuse in the planning and delivery of service and support.
• CAPACITY BUILDING: Continue development of the East Violence Against Women Partnership, increasing educational partners and networking to provide training to broader group of services /community groups etc.
4 Clean Glasgow and Open and Green Spaces
• the Clean Glasgow campaign was launched in February 2007 and recognises a strong link between antisocial behaviour, crime and environmental degradation (crime and grime);
• over the past 2 years the campaign has been delivered throughout the East by supporting a wide range of community groups, local schools and businesses to conduct clean ups in their area. The campaign has now moved forward and is targeting further neighbourhood areas;
• the campaign has 2 main themes which are Reduction led by GCSS and Mitigation led by Land and Environmental Services;
• reduction aims to ensure that people do not drop litter, fly tip, spray graffiti or do anything else of this nature. The mitigation theme seeks to improve the response to grime crime. It will help to ensure that communities, which genuinely try to deal with environmental degradation, are given support and encouragement to maintain a clean and tidy area;
• GCSS and LES currently deploy various services to address environmental issues including the Cleansing Services, Environmental Community Action Team, Graffiti Team, Community Enforcement Officers, mobile CCTV and the Community Reparation Team. They all work in partnership with partner agencies and the community
