Glasgow East Regeneration Agency (GERA) is the lead organisation for the ‘Working’ theme which is the responsibility of the Glasgow East Strategic Employability Group (GESEG), covering East Centre & Calton and Baillieston, Shettleston & Greater Easterhouse Community Planning Partnership areas.
GESEG’s members include East Community Health & Care Partnership (CHCP); East Community Planning Partnership; Glasgow City Council, Development & Regeneration Services (DRS); Glasgow East Regeneration Agency (GERA); Jobcentre Plus (JCP); John Wheatley College (JWC) and Skills Development Scotland (SDS).
GESEG’s strategic objective has remained unchanged from its inception:-
“GESEG will support the continuing regeneration of the Glasgow East area, in particular maximising opportunities for local people arising from the Clyde Gateway and Glasgow hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games."
GESEG objectives are to:-
• Best utilise collective resources to achieve City Strategy targets
• Maintain a continuum of support based around client need and following the employability pathway
• Consolidate linkages between the employability and health and social care sectors
• Ensure consistent processes, including data capture, are in place to track referrals between partners and identify pathways to employment
GERA, as the lead organisation, has established a wide range of service delivery points across Glasgow East. Our operating area covers the entire East End of Glasgow and we have sub offices including Dennistoun, Shettleston, Bridgeton and Garthamlock. We have also established 14 community employability hubs across the area.
We deliver employability programmes in the main from our two employability centres:-

GERA provides clients with a range of different services ranging from training courses which aim to help clients secure employment to aftercare programs once an individual has gained employment. Advice on completing job applications, compiling CVs, interview preparation and interview techniques is also available from one of the team’s specialist advisors. All of the services provided by the team are aimed at local residents and are free of charge.
We create and deliver client centred services that follow the employability pathway and are:-
• Continuing to deliver the Glasgow Works programme in partnership with local organisations
• Increasing the number of customers being referred to employability programmes who suffer from poor health/or disabilities
• Continuing to provide wrap around employability programmes such as EastWorks and Routes to (& Sustaining) Employment
• Continue to link local residents to job opportunities arising from the major infrastructure investments such as the Clyde Gateway, M74 and Commonwealth Games
• Continuing to provide community benefit clause advice to organisations bidding for Clyde Gateway, East End Regeneration Route and Commonwealth Games contracts
• Assisting local businesses and social economy organisations to sustain current products/services and develop new ideas
• Helping local employers with recruitment activities, ensuring local people are best placed to compete for jobs
• Helping local people to develop their business ideas
• Implementing the volunteering strategy that is currently under development
• Implementing, in conjunction with JobCentre Plus, the pilot of the Personal Best programme.
