Get involved...

As well as becoming a member of this website there are a range of ways to get involved in your community please see information below.

Community Reference Groups

Click on your area on the map below to see which CRG covers your area.

Community Reference Groups (CRGs) are a way for local people to get involved in Community Planning. Community planning is about improving public services and making sure that local people have the opportunity to influence and make a difference in the plans for their communities. This covers a range of issues and services that matter to local residents, including education, employment, housing, health, safety, community facilities, provision for young people and much more. You can find out more by contacting the Community Engagement advisors; Jack Simpson & Leah Webb on 0141 781 4194 or 0141 781 4193 email jsimpson@gera.org.uk  or lwebb@gera.org.uk

East Glasgow CHCP is committed to developing a range of ways for people who use our services, their carers and members of local community and voluntary groups to have a voice in how CHCP services are designed and delivered. The PPF is a forum open to all individuals who live in East Glasgow and members of community and voluntary groups active in the area.

Area Committees (Glasgow City Council)

Glasgow City Council’s decision-making process includes a system of 21 Area Committees - one for each Council Ward in the City.  There are 5 Area Committees covering Glasgow East.

To support the work of the Area Committees, individuals from local organisations (usually Community Councils) are invited to join their Area Committee to allow their local knowledge and experience to influence the discussions and decisions that are made at Area Committees.  The Committees meet every 6 weeks (excluding Summer, October and Winter recesses).  Members of the public can attend Area Committees to observe.

The main role of Area Committees is to monitor how Council services are delivered and developed locally. To assist the Area Committees in their role they are each allocated an Area Budget.  These budgets are mainly used to provide grants to local community and voluntary organisations to provide services that will help to achieve the Council’s objectives.  To access application forms and guidance notes, visit the Council’s website or contact Karen Kenny on 0141 287 7864 (or, for parts of Easterhouse, Derek Speirs on 0141 287 3532).

Members of the public can raise issues with the Area Committees in a number of ways – by contacting the elected Councillors for their area; the community members of the Committee (normally Community Councils), or the officers responsible for supporting the Area Committees.  For more information...

Community Councils

The key roles of community councils are to:

  • Positively support local government and establish close, constructive relationships with their local authority, with their local councillors and with other organisations in their areas.
  • Develop a wide range of contacts with both public and private sector agencies, particularly to communicate local views. For instance, statutory utilities such as the suppliers of water, gas and electricity; and bodies with an interest in local amenity issues.
  • Actively seek the views, opinions and aspirations of the full cross-section of the local community and be able to demonstrate that steps have been taken to consult the local community when appropriate, and in all cases be sure, as far as possible, that the views they express are representative of the communities they serve.

Community councils also have a consultative role in planning applications, liquor licensing and community planning.

For information on the Community Council for your area contact Alex Hewetson Community Council Liaison Officer 0141 287 4888
