Some people choose to volunteer to give something back to the community or help those around them. For others, it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.

Some of the reasons people choose to volunteer:

  • Make a positive change in the lives of other people.
  • Give something back to an organisation that has worked to better people’s lives, either directly or indirectly.
  • Help those in need with fewer access to opportunities, who are less fortunate or unable to express their voices.
  • Feel valued, appreciated and part of a team that takes into consideration your contributions.
  • Gain a better self-esteem and confidence about your skills.
  • Gain new skills, knowledge and experience that will help you in daily life and future career aspirations.
  • Spend quality time away from work, school obligations or a busy lifestyle.
  • Have a chance to socialise with new people, being able to interact and make new acquaintances and friends.
  • Get to know in depth the local community of which you are part of.
